WELCOME SHAW MONTESSORI STUDENTS
This self‑paced, non‑competitive course introduces students to the fundamentals of traditional karate, emphasizing proper etiquette, discipline, and respect within the dojo. Your child will learn basic stances, strikes, and blocks, as well as participate in stretching and conditioning drills with a focus on correct technique. The course also covers essential Japanese terminology, demonstrations of practical skills, and discussions on common‑sense self‑defense strategies.
To ensure the quality of instruction the class size is limited, registration will close after 24 applicants.

Questions:
Will my child need a uniform?
No. Uniforms or other gear is not required for the after school course. Students should wear loose or athletic clothing for free movement. (no skirts or dresses please). Classes are conducted in bare feet.
Will my child be fighting/sparring or competing in tournaments?
No. Beginners train with little to no contact. Depending on progress, some light contact drills may be conducted with a measured count under the instructor's close supervision.
My child takes martial arts elsewhere. Does their rank (belt) transfer into your class?
No. The styles and standards can vary greatly from school to school. These classes will introduce our standards and practices to beginners. However, if your child is all ready adept with some basic techniques, they may progress faster. For this course, we will not be tracking rank or level. But, you may find more information on our ranking system here.
