A PRACTICAL Style

Uechi-Ryu Karate is a direct and aggressive style of self-defense. It is centered on the Sanchin form in which practitioners train to draw strength from a grounded stance, and react with a clear mind. It is an in-close style in which one attacks the attacker, with quick deflection, grabbing, and hard striking to vulnerable targets.
It uses equal parts of hard and soft techniques and is likened to bamboo, being both hard on the outside and soft (or open) on the inside. It possesses both circular flowing movements and hard straight-line techniques. It does not require acrobatics, nor involves pinning or holding an attacker into submission. Instead, striking is used to stun, or injure the attacker, allowing the defender (or attacker) to flee. If necessary, the defender may even deliver a fatal blow. It is a derivative of a tiger, crane and dragon system from southern China called Pan Gai Noon. It is modeled after the tiger's strength and power, the crane's balance, and "dragon" breathing methods. |
